Parent leaders from First 5 Contra Costa’s Regional Groups joined 750 participants at the 15th annual Immigrant Advocacy Day in Sacramento earlier this summer to educate legislators about the needs and challenges facing young immigrant children and children of immigrant parents.
Regional Group members, who participate in one panerai replica of three groups organized and supported by First 5 Contra Costa, met with local lawmakers including Senator Mark DeSaulnier, Assemblywoman Nancy Skinner, and Assemblywoman Joan Buchanan.
Immigrants make up more than a quarter of California’s population, a rate higher than any other state in the nation, and 77% of children under 5 in California live in a home where a language other than English is spoken. The trip was a great opportunity for the parents to enhance their advocacy skills and share information about the need for quality preschools, health services, and linguistically and culturally relevant programming for young children and their families.
Check out our video! It documents the trip – which for most of the 17 participants, hublot replica watches was their first to the capital – and shares how their participation is helping them to become strong local advocates and leaders for children and families.
