A letter from our Executive Director:

Dear Colleagues:

It is with mixed emotions that I announce my departure as the Executive Director at the end of 2019. My 19 years at First 5 Contra Costa have been a time of remarkable growth and evolution, both for myself and for this great organization. I became First 5’s second Executive Director in 2005, and it has been my great fortune ever since to be a leader in the effort improve the lives of children 0-5 across the County.

I’m extremely proud of everything we have been able to do to support families with young children and help them get the services they need. Because of First 5, more and more policymakers, elected officials, and public and private agencies recognize that supporting children in the earliest years has big payoffs for savings down the road.

Moving forward, I am committed to supporting a smooth transition to identify the best individual to lead the organization. The Children and Families Commission, which leads First 5, has retained a recruitment firm to conduct a search for the new First 5 Contra Costa Executive Director in hopes to find its next leader by the end of December. More details about the position can be found here.

I want to express my appreciation and gratitude to all who have been supportive of First 5 and of me personally over the years: our staff, the Commission, our partners, and of course, the families that have been a part of our vision for Contra Costa’s young children. I remain hopeful and excited for the next chapter of First 5 Contra Costa as we continue to support programs and advocate for policies focused on children during their first five years.

All the very best,

Sean Casey
Executive Director
