After 11 years of working with us, our Early Childhood Education Program Officer, Debi Silverman, has taken a new position with First 5 California and will be relocating to Sacramento. Tomorrow is her last day at First 5 Contra Costa.
Debi’s early childhood expertise has influenced a significant portion of our work, and improved the lives of thousands of children in Contra Costa County. Take a look at some of her many accomplishments!
Debi started at First 5 in 2002…
She led the charge to support early care professionals and improve the quality of child care in Contra Costa County:
With her determination and can-do attitude, she managed to convince four large school districts that school readiness begins well before kindergarten entry and created school readiness programs to help low-income children start school fully prepared. Our family literacy preschools are one legacy of that effort.
Debi created our Tigo school readiness character and kit to provide parents with tools and information to help them be their child’s first teachers:
She oversaw the creation of our Preschool Makes a Difference program, which provides scholarships for low-income children to attend high-quality preschool. She later helped secure a $6.1 million grant to expand the program, which now provides over 150 scholarships each year.
Her work in Contra Costa will have an impact on young children for many years to come!
At least we’re keeping Debi in the First 5 family. Imagine the impact she’s going to make on a statewide level when it comes to quality early learning:
