With greater urgency than ever to build power and center the voices of families with young children in Contra Costa County, the Regional Groups, First 5 Contra Costa, and Healthy & Active Before 5 spent 12 months learning about what residents want for their neighborhoods and supporting their participation in the 2020 census and November elections.
This work is crucial to supporting all young children 0-5 to grow up in healthy, safe, and equitable neighborhoods while also ensuring low-income families, immigrants and Black, brown, and indigenous communities receive equitable investment and political representation. With COVID-19 and the past years’ tragedies highlighting the life and death implications of systemic inequity in how we allocate public resources, being counted and represented is critical to ensuring family well-being for generations to come.
We gathered the data, lessons learned, and recommendations for moving forward into The We Count and We Vote! report, available in English and Spanish.
