Alternate Commissioner representing District 3
Bella Merrill is the Early Literacy Outreach Librarian for the Contra Costa County Library. She travels across the county in the library’s all-electric early literacy outreach van, the Rolling Reader, providing bilingual storytimes, STEM programs, and other learning experiences to children in historically underserved areas.
Receiving dual bachelor’s degrees from UC San Diego in literature and Spanish language, she began her career in a school library, where she discovered an interest in connecting children with reading. She later received her master’s in library and information science from San Jose State University, focusing her studies on children’s services in public libraries. Her passion lies in engaging young children with literacy through music and books.
