Our commitment to the safety and well-being of children and families

At First 5 Contra Costa, we are unwavering in our commitment to ensuring all children prenatal to age 5 are healthy, ready to learn, and safe in nurturing families and communities. Physical, emotional, and psychological safety are essential for the health and well-being of all children. Our work focuses on prevention strategies and interventions that ensure the safety of our children. We do this by strengthening the entire family unit and the adult community that surrounds and supports young children.

First 5 Contra Costa stands behind its mission to support all children in reaching their full potential and by strengthening families in our County, particularly those who have faced systemic racism due to the color of their skin, nationality, ethnic background, legal status, race, or gender orientation. The safety of many babies, young children, parents, members of the LGBTQ+ community, and non-binary individuals, and others are at risk.

At this moment in time, immigrant families are facing heightened challenges with their safety and well-being jeopardized by policies and tensions that threaten their sense of security and belonging.

Our babies and young children depend on the adults around them to feel safe. We understand that adult and child interactions, environmental factors, and surrounding events directly impact their development and can lead to long-term physical, mental, and cognitive issues.

First 5 Contra Costa is committed to continue to play key roles in our community—as a funder, convener, and advocate—and we stand ready to support, connect, and strengthen all families with young children in our county.

As your trusted community partner, we have cataloged a set of immigration resources, tools, and information that can support immigrant families and service providers:

Click here to view our cataloged set of immigration resources for community partners and organizations, as well as page dedicated to immigration resources for families.

As new resources and information become available, we will continue to update and share this catalog to help immigrant families and service providers stay informed and supported during these uncertain times.

Together, we can strengthen families, inform our community about their rights, and prioritize the safety of children.
